Staff profile

Esther García Monreal is a native of Alicante, Spain. She is a graduate of University Complutense of Madrid (BA, History, 2015), and Durham University (MA International Relations – Middle East, 2017). She is currently a Doctoral Research Student in Government and International Affairs (SGIA) at Durham University, where she is actively involved in graduate teaching and researches on the formation and development of Israeli identity in the wake of the al-Aqsa intifada and its link to securitization in Israel. Esther has served as Secretary of the SGIA PhD Association since January 2019. Since the beginning of her PhD studies, she has also completed additional research assistant work for Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar, and collaborated with various other projects associated with the Institute for Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies (IMEIS) at Durham University. Prior to joining SGIA, she worked in the private sector as an international communications representative, as a community developer in Palestine, and as refugee relief volunteer in Greece.
