Biography
About
Julia is a mixed-methods PhD researcher in the Department of Sociology researching sexual harassment on public transport. In January 2018 she graduated from her MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice at Durham University. Following her masters, she worked in research administration as a project coordinator for nearly 3 years, on a multi-agency collaborative project with 16 partners. During her PhD, Julia has worked as a Research Assistant, as well as a Graduate Teaching Assistant on multiple modules at various levels. Julia is a volunteer for Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland (RCTN) and has been part of the organisation for over 6 years. She has also worked with Northumbria PCC on local VAWG awareness and education campaigns.
Field of Study
Julia’s doctoral research is funded by ESRC NINE DTP (in collaboration with RCTN), and investigates sexual harassment on public transport in the North-East of England. The project uses a sequential mixed-methods approach, consisting of an online survey and Education Empowerment Workshops. Julia is particularly interested in feminist research, public sexual harassment, safety work, and North-East contexts. She is passionate about social change and is particularly interested in making impactful research in the local community.
