Biography
Martin Allison is responsible for the technical aspects of the Music Department. Primarily the three department studios: The Historical Electroacoustic Studio, The Music Technology Studio, and the North Bailey Recording Studio, as well as other in-house designed systems, notably the Music Technology Lab (MTL) and the Concert Room's Surround Sound Audio System. Designing, developing and maintaining the department's systems and music technologies.
Martin studied Electronic Engineering at the University of Teesside from 1990 to 1994. Upon graduation he worked for Samsung Electronics Manufacturing UK for the next ten years as Senior Automatic Equipment Design and Process Design Engineer for PC monitor manufacturing. In 2000 he won the Samsung UK outstanding achievement award for designing the world’s fastest PC Monitor Automatic Colour Adjustment System.
He is a keen musician and has played electric guitar from the age of ten, with a particular interest in Blues and Rock. This lead to an interest in electronics and sound engineering, and finally to his present position at Durham beginning in 2004.
