Biography
Philip in in his first year of a part time doctorate in the department of Music. He is researching how the challenges of identity influenced the ideas of musicologists and music theorists in the late nineteenth century in German speaking lands, particularly focussing on Vienna. Philip is supervised by Professor Bennett Zon and Associate Professor Katherine Hambridge.
Philip holds a BA in Economics (1987) and an MA in Music (2022). Philip’s masters dissertation looked at the interaction between musical and choreographic form in ballet.
Philip is treasurer of International Nineteenth Century Studies Association (INCSA). He is a trustee of a number of performing arts organisations and an amateur conductor, performing with orchestras in London and Durham.
