Staff profile

Yuzheng Zhang is currently a PhD student in the Department of Engineering at Durham University, supported by the EPSRC Doctoral Studentship. Before that, he received his MSc in Statistics from The University of Warwick. His Bachelor of Science degrees in Financial Mathematics were awarded by The University of Sheffield and Nanjing Tech University. Yuzheng had a short industry experience working as a Smart Manufacturing Engineer at Caterpillar Inc, from which he gained interest in applying data science methods to manufacturing processes. His research interests mainly include the applications of statistics and machine learning methods in manufacturing processes, while he is also interested in digital transformation works.

Research Project

Yuzheng’s PhD programme is about applying data science methods to vaccine manufacturing processes. We are going to analyse and extract mathematical and statistical models and develop statistical machine learning algorithms from bioreactor data to enable automated modelling of the bioprocesses involved. In this way, we hope the manufacturing efficiency of the vaccines could be improved.
