August Confirmation and your College Allocation

The undergraduate college allocation process will begin in May time.  All college allocations are preliminary.  We make every attempt for applicants to remain with their preliminary allocated college where possible, however it should be understood that this may not be possible in all cases.

Following the publication of exam results on 15 August 2024, the University may change an applicant's college allocation if:

  • An applicant has medical needs which cannot be met by their preliminary allocated college
  • There is insufficient room availability to make every applicant who submitted the Accommodation Form by the deadline an offer of University accommodation
  • An applicant did not submit the Accommodation Form by the deadline but then requests University accommodation

Where we may need to change an applicant's college allocation, the University will prioritise keeping offer holders in their preliminary allocated college in the following order:

  1. Applicants who place Durham as their firm choice AND who meet or exceed the conditions of their offer
  2. Applicants who are accepted to Durham despite not meeting the conditions of their offer AND who place Durham as their firm choice (near miss candidates)
  3. Applicants who place Durham as their insurance choice
  4. Applicants accepted through clearing
  5. Applicants who originally declined or did not apply for University accommodation by the deadline, but later requested an offer of accommodation

We will communicate with you at each stage to confirm your finalised allocation.
