This talk is part of the Department of Psychology (Durham University) seminar series.
This talk will review a variety of ways in which academic psychologists can use their research to promote the public good, with a particular focus on promoting racial justice. Through sharing historical examples, personal reflections, and writings about public engagement, Tropp will encourage us to consider the roles we can play, the contributions we can make, and the strategies we might use to connect to the audiences we seek to reach.
Professor of Social Psychology, Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences University of Massachusetts Amherst
Linda R. Tropp studies how members of different groups experience contact with each other, and how group differences in status affect cross-group relations. She has worked with national organizations on initiatives to promote racial integration and equity, and with nongovernmental organizations around the globe to evaluate interventions designed to bridge group differences in divided societies.
