A successful researcher takes time to plan what and how they are going to search before looking for literature. This session will help you to consider the best ways to find resources for your topic. It will look at how to construct an effective search and why it is important to be able to do this. 

Learning outcomes

After attending this session, you will be able to: 

  • Recognise the importance of planning a search systematically  
  • Utilise tools for effective searching 
  • Broaden or narrow a search as appropriate to get more accurate results 

Who is this workshop for?

This session is open to all students, but will be particularly useful for those undertaking independent research for the first time.

This session is delivered by an academic skills specialist from University Library and Collections.
