Session description

Conducting a literature search can be a long and daunting task. However, AI has the power to help you streamline the process and facilitate your literature search, which can save you time and energy. This session will introduce you to some of the key AI-powered tools available and offer tips on using them effectively in tandem with Durham University’s Library Search tool, Discover. 

Learning outcomes

After attending this session, you will be able to: 

  • Generate a list of search terms and concepts related to your assignment/subject area using AI 
  • Unpack and/or refine your research question 
  • Practice using AI-tools in tandem with Durham University’s Library Search tool, Discover to relevant literature 
  • Recognise the importance of keeping a prompt and literature log 
  • Acknowledge the strengths and limitations of employing AI-powered apps/browsers in constructing a research strategy within the Durham context 

Who is this workshop for?

This session is open to all students but may be especially useful to those who are conducting independent research. This session is also beneficial for students wishing to develop their search strategy and learn about how to use AI-powered tools responsibly within their work. 

Facilitator

This session is delivered by an academic skills specialist from University Library and Collections.
