Students taking part in a group exercise at the Global Goals summit

We are gearing up for Global Week from 24 February to 3 March 2024. This is a designated period in the University calendar, where we recognise, celebrate and learn from the international multi-lingual, multi-cultural diversity that defines us a leading, global University. In celebration of our staff and students from over 120 countries, the theme for Global Week 2024 is Inclusivity.

Signature events with a global theme

Durham Global Week will showcase the University's diversity and global impact through a tapestry of student and staff-led events, cross-cultural exchanges, and institutional programming.

The Week will include a varied programme of Signature events from arts and culture to boundary-pushing research. The range of events already confirmed includes a half day summit to be hosted by the Business School on ‘Building inclusive organisations’ and the International Scholars Reception for invited guests of hosted by the Vice-Chancellor, celebrating our diverse community of scholarship holders from around the world.

There will also be a range of activities open to the public, including traditional Lunar New Year celebrations for the ’Year of the Dragon’ at the Oriental Museum.

How to get involved

In addition to the Signature events, we are now inviting proposals from across the University community, from both staff and students, to organise their own "Global Week" event, to add to the programme.

This could be a cultural showcase, thought-provoking discussion, performance or collaborative project reflecting Durham's worldwide connections. However big or small, your event can celebrate, recognise and inspire. Events can be aimed at all audiences, from staff and students to the general public.

You can propose an event quickly and easily by submitting brief details using the online form. Approved events will be promoted as part of the Global Week programme, raising the profile and awareness of projects and events taking place here at Durham.

Don't miss this chance to get involved and share what "global" means to you!

Global Awards 2024

Global Week will culminate in the Global Awards ceremony on Friday 1 March, recognising the people, projects and partnerships pushing Durham's globalisation forward and honouring diversity champions.

Nominations are now open for awards across 11 categories, with lots of opportunities to recognise and celebrate the people and projects that make Durham a truly Global university. Make your nominations to ensure that both outstanding individuals and teams are recognised for their contributions.
