A joint workshop sponsored collaboratively by CHESS and History and Philosophy of Science group from University of Leeds. The speakers include Greg Radick (University of Leeds), Sarah Wieten (Philosophy at Durham University), and Joe Martin and Richard Huzzey (History at Durham University).

This workshop will explore the extent to which qualitative research methods can enhance philosophical works and vice versa, with a particular focus on applied normative philosophy. We aim to contribute to growing efforts to bridge the gap between abstract normative theorising and empirically-informed research that engages with real people in the real world.

This is a meeting to discuss how three Children’s Social Care departments have sought to improve social workers’ analytic skills when making sense of information about a child’s life and well-being. It draws on Eileen Munro's (LSE) and Nancy Cartwright's (Durham) research on providing credible evidence of singular causal claims.
