Maritime Boundaries in the Baltic Sea: Past, Present and Future

Author: Erik Franckx

Abstract

This detailed and informative Briefing gives an overview of boundary-making in the Baltic Sea. The author first describes the background to the current situation, and then discusses the processes at work between 1945 and the early part of the 1990s when dramatic political events led to the Baltic Sea gaining several littoral states. The author assesses the impact of the reemergence of the three independent Baltic republics and the reunification of Germany on the delimitation process.

A clear and concise chronological overview of maritime delimitation in the Baltic, this Briefing should be required reading for those interested in this region.
