*with a contemporary twist. Join us at Castle on 11 June for medieval-inspired bowl food with snippets of medieval culinary research, chaired by Professor Sheila Cavanagh, this year’s Slater Fellow. This event is in partnership with the Institute of Medieval & Early Modern Studies and University College.

Hear from: Durham doctoral students Florence Swan and Toby Doneghan-Cross, and @MedievalFoodwithJennie creator Jennie Hood. We will also be joined by Eat Medieval co-founders, Durham’s Professor Giles Gasper and Blackfriars’ Andy Hook. The Eat Medieval project explores Durham Libraries’ collection of cookery materials in partnership with Durham University and Blackfriars Cookery School in Newcastle.

Mains: Pork Fritters with gribiche sauce; Soused Fish Salad with pickled vegetables; Cauliflower Cheese Flan (v) with beer-braised onions & seeds
Desserts: Elderflower Cheesecake with shortbread crumble; Deep Fried Apple & Cinnamon Fritters with butterscotch
