|Assistant Professor (Research) in the Department of Psychology|
|Fellow of Wolfson Research Institute for Health and Wellbeing|
I moved to Durham in September 2020 where I am Assistant Professor (Research) in the Department of Psychology. I am Durham University’s NIHR North East and North Cumbria Applied Research Collaboration Fellow, and I am a member of the Wolfson Research Institute for Health and Wellbeing. I am also an Associate Member of FUSE, the Centre for Translational Research in Public Health.
I completed my PhD in 2017 at the University of Exeter, and subsequently I was a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Exeter Medical School and at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto.
My broad areas of interest are in mental health, addiction, psychological medicine and health psychology. I am particularly interested in factors that influence the development and maintenance of depression in people with chronic physical illnesses, and in the impact of mental health comorbidities on health and treatment outcomes.
My current work within the ARC focuses on mental health and wellbeing, with a focus on the themes of multimorbidity, health inequalities, and the integration of mental and physical health care.
- Depression and anxiety
- Long term conditions
- Comorbidity / multimorbidity
- Repetitive thought (e.g. rumination, worry)
- Problem solving
- Psychological interventions
- Health inequalities
