Aims

  • To enable students to explore in depth a selected Old Testament book within the context of contemporary scholarship.
  • To enable students to examine ways in which the Old Testament book can be appropriately used in contemporary situations.

Content

  • In depth exploration of a particular book, or in the case of a longer book an appropriate section of that book.
  • Examination of the ways in which the Old Testament book can be appropriately used in contemporary situations.

  • Describe and analyse in detail a specific Old Testament book, with reference to recent research methodologies and findings and the questions raised by them.

  • Critically evaluate and apply different approaches, including those of modern critical scholarship, to interpreting the selected Old Testament book in its cultural and religious contexts.
