Schools Membership Scheme (SMS) Open Day Attendance

As one of our member schools, we'd be delighted if you joined us for one of our Pre-application Open Days on either Friday 15th September or Saturday 16th September 2023. 

Students can attend individually, on either date, and your school can also organise a group visit on Friday 15th September. If you wish to come as a group, students must also book their individual places too. The benefit of organising a group visit is that you may be entitled to an event bursary. Please note that the deadline for group bookings is Friday 21st July. To secure your group place, contact us at: schools.membership@durham.ac.uk 

School Event Bursary

School/college groups may be entitled to up to £500 travel costs if you have students who fulfill our eligibility criteria for the School Event Bursary (£50 per student up to a maximum of 10 students).

The eligible students must be present and register attendance on the day of the event at the Event Bursary Claim Desk in the Teaching and Learning Centre (South Road, Durham DH1 3LE). Schools must attend the event for at least 3 hours to qualify. If each student does not register their attendance at the Claim Desk, we won't be able to process your application (online check in to the event is not acceptable evidence of attendance).

You are welcome to bring as many students as you like, but the payment will be capped at £500 and to claim the full amount you must bring a minimum of 10 eligible students. A maximum payment of £500 per school will be paid following the event (this process can take up to 8 weeks).
