A warm welcome to Josephine Butler College. You will find us to be a contemporary and inclusive community made up of students, staff, alumni, and friends that work together to create opportunities aimed at enriching your time at Durham University. Our Middle Common Room (MCR) acts as a focal point, allowing our vibrant postgraduate community to actively contribute to the fabric of our college. Their involvement plays a pivotal role in shaping the character and essence of our collective spirit. As you embark on your journey with us, we hope it is a transformational one where friendships are forged, horizons are expanded on, and memories are made.

Middle Common Room

The MCR is for postgraduates, mature students and 4th year undergraduates. We organise a range of social and academic activities throughout the year.

Your first week in Durham – University Induction Week Events Timetable

The Timetable has been designed so College events don’t clash with any of your academic departmental events, but offer you lots of opportunities to meet your fellow Freshers, find your way around and settle into student life.

To help you keep track of where you need to be, and what you need to do during your first busy days at university, in your College and your Department, we have created a day-by-day University Induction Planner. This should help you to plan your schedule, so you don't miss anything - from being issued with your Campus Card or meeting the staff in your Department, to trying out for a sports team or joining a student society.
