Congratulations and Welcome to New Undergraduate Students

University student
Welcome to Josephine Butler College. We draw together people from the broadest range of backgrounds to form a vibrant community. Our emphasis on students, staff, alumni and friends working as one creates a fun and supportive atmosphere giving opportunities for everyone to engage with - and lead on - the breadth of activities which make up college life. Our Junior Common Room (JCR) provides the core of undergraduate student life: a self-organising group embodying the spirit of everything Butler.

Welcome to Butler! Within our Junior Common Room (JCR) there are many roles to help you all #GetInvolved. These opportunities help you get a wider student experience; you can do this through, sports, societies & committees! There is something for everyone here, and if there isn’t we can create it with our resilient and adaptive attitudes. If you have any questions message @butler.sabbs on Instagram or email Butler.jcr@durham.ac.uk.

Your first week in Durham – University Induction Week Events Timetable

The Timetable has been designed so College events don’t clash with any of your academic departmental events, but offer you lots of opportunities to meet your fellow Freshers, find your way around and settle into student life.

To help you keep track of where you need to be, and what you need to do during your first busy days at university, in your College and your Department, we have created a day-by-day University Induction Planner. This should help you to plan your schedule, so you don't miss anything - from being issued with your Campus Card or meeting the staff in your Department, to trying out for a sports team or joining a student society.
