About Us

Established in 1899, St Mary's is one of Durham's oldest Colleges. Originally founded as a pioneering women-only College, our community is now mixed and comprises around 750 undergraduate members and 150 full-time and 200 part-time postgraduates. We are a warm and friendly College situated in a great location, close to many of the University’s academic departments and central facilities. Our neoclassical buildings and extensive grounds provide a beautiful environment in which to live and study.

College Life

At Mary's we believe there is something for everyone.

We have sports teams, drama groups, music societies and outreach groups, as well as social events such as our Michaelmas Dinner, Winter Ball, Masquerade Ball, Midsummer Ball, and Mary's Day when we deck the place out in Mary's purple and celebrate everything that is Mary's.
