125 faces of St Mary's

There is still time to claim your photo.

In June 2025, we proudly launched the 125 Faces of St Mary’s Project to mark the end of the 125th anniversary celebrations.

125 Faces of St Mary's

With hundreds of unclaimed photos, we are calling out to the St Mary's alumni community to get in touch.

The Stats

In the summer of 2024, Kellie Horrocks began clearing out the St Mary’s basement, where she found hundreds of passport photos and the 125 faces of St Mary’s project was born.

Since then, Kellie has cross-referenced over 1000 passport photos, some going back to the 1960s. She has successfully reunited hundreds of St Mary’s alumni with their younger selves.

Out of the 1000 photos, almost 50% of which go unclaimed, as we have no way of contacting alumni to ask them if they like their photo back. Kellie has kept a log of all photos she’s cross-referenced, and these have been kept on file, but we can’t keep hold of them forever. In January 1960, all unclaimed photos will be destined to be shredded.

If you or a relative studied at St Mary’s between 1960 and 2007 and submitted a passport photo, please get in touch.

What to do to check if we have your photo

Here’s what you need to do if you’d like your photo back.

  1. Update your alumni record. All alumni should have one!
  1. Once you’ve done that, email us with information so we can find the photo – former name, current name, and Years at St Mary’s

Alternatively, drop us an email and we’ll take a look for you! stmarys.alumni@durham.ac.uk

It has been wonderful to see the faces of the past, smiling at the prospect of coming to St Mary’s College. The project of reuniting these photos with their owners has enabled us to rebuild contacts with many of our alumni and to share stories of Mary’s past, present and future.
