Beethoven's Ninth Symphony

Featuring the masterwork ‘Ode to Joy’, Beethoven’s ‘Choral’ Symphony celebrates humankind and acts as an advocate for equality and peace. A highlight of Beethoven’s work, the 9th Symphony will be performed by two of the leading ensembles within the University. 

Opening the concert is Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, alongside Benjamin Britten’s Advance Democracy and Ballad of Heroes. These passionate works commemorate those lost to war and demonstrate Britten’s horror at events in the early 20^th century, yet also illustrate his hope for the future.
