Congratulations and Welcome to Combined Honours in Social Sciences

Congratulations on becoming one of our Combined Social Sciences freshers and welcome to the department! We’re looking forward to meeting you in person during Welcome and Orientation Week, and will be posting some video content about the programme for you to watch over the summer before we meet.

When you arrive in Durham, we have a live session on the first day of Welcome and Orientation week where you’ll meet me and your Combined Social Sciences peer mentor as well as other students studying similar combinations of subjects to you. We’ll also organise some online coffee mornings in September where you can drop in to have a chat with other new students and ask us any questions you might have.

Professor Megan Bruce

University student
Durham’s Combined Social Sciences department offers incredible flexibility and inclusiveness. By being elected as a departmental representative, I was able to raise any issue related to academics or EDI… From the perspective of an international student, my voice was always heard and respected, and I was fully supported and encouraged to do my best.

Your first week in Durham – University Induction Week Events Timetable

The Timetable has been designed so College events don’t clash with any of your academic departmental events, but offer you lots of opportunities to meet your fellow Freshers, find your way around and settle into student life.

To help you keep track of where you need to be, and what you need to do during your first busy days at university, in your College and your Department, we have created a day-by-day University Induction Planner. This should help you to plan your schedule, so you don't miss anything - from being issued with your Campus Card or meeting the staff in your Department, to trying out for a sports team or joining a student society.
