Fire fighter tackling a forest fire

What role might fiction play in helping readers to come to terms with the climate crisis? Dr Naomi Booth shares her ‘idea for positive change’ in this talk recorded for Durham Book Festival.

Dr Booth begins by talking about her own first novel, Sealed, which is often described as a work of eco-horror. She ponders whether dark genres might risk overwhelming the reader with a sense of pessimism and anxiety about the future, and whether other forms of fiction are necessary to encourage us to take positive action against the climate crisis.
