The historic task of the European Union (EU) today, Marija argues in her book "Reimagining Prosperity: Toward a New Imaginary of Law and Political Economy in the EU" (CUP 2024), is to articulate and institute a new imaginary of prosperity. Imaginaries of prosperity integrate societies around an attractive vision, and a credible path, to future prosperity, placing ‘political-economic' questions in the centre of politics.

A new imaginary of prosperity in the EU must be able to provide credible answers to contemporary problems, while also conjuring a world in which people want to live. At the present juncture, however, it remains unclear whether the EU is up to its task - either in terms of urgency or the type of problems Europeans face - to institute in timely fashion a new path to prosperity and prevent thus a descent into political extremism.
