Master of Social Work alumni (2017-2019) Ben Chisanga has been awarded an MBE for services to Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children

Ben was one of the founder members of the Regional Refugee North-East organisation and has worked with young people from our region for decades.  He was a member of the 2017-2019 Master of Social Work Cohort in the Department of Sociology, completing placements within Domestic Violence and Child Protection placements and carried out research into the impact of Domestic Violence Perpetrator Programmes. He is currently working for Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council's Asylum Through Care Team, and maintains links with the Durham programme, recently supporting another MSW student on placement as their Practice Supervisor.
