Old Testament Research Seminars

Convenor: Dr David Janzen (david.janzen@durham.ac.uk); Dr Andrew Mein (andrew.r.mein@durham.ac.uk); Professor Walter Moberly (r.w.l.moberly@durham.ac.uk)

Meetings: Fortnightly on Tuesdays (4-5.30pm)

Description

The purpose of the seminar is to enable those researching in Old Testament/Hebrew Bible, and related fields, to meet in a congenial and collegial context where issues related to our subject can be explored. The regular format of the seminar is a c. 50-minute paper followed by discussion. Papers are given by staff and postgraduates, trying out ideas from their current research; and by visiting scholars from around the UK and overseas, who give a flavour of the wider context of contemporary research. Sometimes, however, we vary the format: for example, in the summer term we usually read portions of a classic work of Old Testament scholarship.

In addition to full-time postgraduates in Old Testament/Hebrew Bible and related areas, for whom this seminar should be a communal forum, MATR students are welcome, as are interested postgraduates from other fields of study.
