Professor Tom Moore
Tom Moore is Head of Department in the Department of Archaeology. He is a specialist in the British and European Iron Age, and his research focuses on landscape and field archaeology. At Durham since 2006, Prof Moore previously worked at Newcastle University and Cotswold Archaeology. His research interests include oppida (massive urban complexes that appear in the Late Iron Age) and alternative urban trajectories; social complexity, landscape and heterarchy; historiography and European Iron Age research and agendas; and landscape sustainability and management. He has also been invovled in major field-based projects including Examining the nature of Late Iron Age urbanism in Gaul, A biography of power: Bagendon ‘oppidum', and REFIT: resituating Europe’s first towns: A case study in enhancing knowledge transfer and developing sustainable management of cultural landscapes.
