Join us on Wednesday 11 May at 10am for a lively research conversation hosted by CNCS and led by Dr Amanda Hsieh (Department of Music at Durham). The event will be a hybrid event with limited availability in person in the Bishops Dining Room, University College, Durham University and online via Zoom.

Format: 

Three 20 minute papers, plus two ten minute responses.

  • Ting Chang (Department of Cultural, Media and Visual Studies, Nottingham University): “Le Casse-tête chinois": Playing with China through War and Games”
  • Hansun Hsiung (MLAC, Durham University): “Controlling Circulation: International Copyright and Japan's Freedom of Translation” 
  • John Gabriel (Faculty of Fine Ars & Music, Melbourne Conservatorium of Music): “Music, Musicology, and Environmentalism in the German Imaginary of the Pacific, 1880-1930”
