Visual Intersections VI (2023) summer school

Interpreting and (re-)imagining folk tales, oral traditions and narratives of curated objects

***Calling all doctoral students and early career researchers working with visual data and materials!***

The Centre for Visual Arts and Culture (CVAC) at Durham University presents our seventh Visual Intersections Summer School The event will be held in-person at Durham University in Durham (UK) from July 17th-19th 2023. This year, our  programme will focus on visual interpretations and (re)adaptations of folk and oral traditions, narratives around museum collections and artefacts, and uses of modern technologies in museum interpretation.

This Summer School is free to attend for all PGRs and ECRs, and is part of an ongoing series of events in which scholars from a diverse range of fields gather to discuss and celebrate innovative work and research in Visual Culture.  If you use visual methods, study visual materials or use visual storytelling techniques in your research, this is for you!  Some assistance with travel and accommodation costs is available for speakers.

There will be opportunities to participate in interactive panels and keynotes, visits to cultural sites around County Durham including tours and interactive workshops, and opportunities for discussion and networking throughout the three-day programme.
