Biography

Recent research has revealed a novel link between cellular Ca2+ signalling and Carbon dioxide (CO2). Carbon dioxide is a molecule that long recognised for its important role in acid-base regulation and respiratory processes. Cellular mechanism responds to changes in CO2 levels extend beyond basic acid-base homeostasis and touch upon complex signalling pathways which leading us to an opening avenue of crosslinks between CO2 and Ca2+ regulation.

Calcium ions (Ca2+) has a vital role for many essential physiological processes as it serves as ubiquitous intracellular second messenger. The complexity of calcium signalling system highlights their crucial role in maintaining cellular homeostasis responding to environmental signals. Therefore, understanding the influence of carbon dioxide on calcium signalling pathways offers profound insights into physiological and pathological conditions, advancing knowledge in respiratory physiology and cellular adaptation.
