Staff profile

I completed my BA in Combined Honours in Arts (modules in Classics and English Literature and dissertation in Classics) at Durham University in 2018. I then worked as a research intern for St George's House, a charity based in Windsor Castle, before completing my MA in The Classical World and its Reception at King's College London in 2021. My dissertation won the Roman Society Master's Dissertation Prize 2022. I followed this by working for two years for Lewisham Virtual School, supporting Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children to access education and other young people in foster care to apply to university. Finally I decided to return to university myself. I really enjoy reading (which is a plus!) and doing Ballet in my spare time.

Doctoral Research Project

My research explores the work of modern exiled writers from a range of background who make use of Ovid's exile poetry in their own work. I'm interested in what we can learn about the experience of exile by investigating the intersection between writers from vastly different periods who have experinced loss of home and chosen to write about it. I'm also interested in what current writers experiencing exile can expose about Ovid's poetics of exile through their treatment of his work. Finally I would like to work with exiled writers groups around the country to find a way for my research to be informed by and give back to this community.
