The V M Oughton Scholarship will support North East applicants with a low household income who are looking to commence an undergraduate degree at Durham University in October 2026. Preference will be given to applicants from Hebburn and Jarrow

Applicants must have a household income below £42,875 (2019-20 rates) based on an assessment carried out by Student Finance England.
Permanently resident in one of the following postcode areas:
CA, DH, DL, NE, SR, TS.

Submit an online scholarship application form by 25 March 2026 including the following.
Arrange for your referee to submit a reference by the above deadline.
A reference from one of your teachers in support of your scholarship application to be sent by email to scholarship.application@durham.ac.uk.
Please ensure your referee submits the reference on letter headed paper or from a school e-mail account which contains:

1 Please explain how academically engaged the student is
2 Please provide information on any activities the student takes part in either in or out of school
3 Please provide any additional information you think would be helpful.
Provide a copy of your Student Finance letter confirming the amount of maintenance loan who are entitled to as soon as you receive it.
