We have experienced an exceptionally high demand for University accommodation this year due to a reduction in the availability of private accommodation in Durham City.
We had previously not planned on using our accommodation on the main Hild Bede site for the current academic year in preparation for the rolling programme of redevelopment across our residential estate, due to start in August 2023.
However, we want to ensure that all our first year undergraduate students who choose to do so are able to benefit from living in College-managed accommodation in Durham City and that nobody has to live further away.
As a result, we have decided to re-open some accommodation on the Hild Bede site.
From academic year 2022/23 residential accommodation for members of Hild Bede will be shared across a small number of locations – the main Riverside site and Ernest Place, with some returning students also living at New Kepier Court.
This means that new freshers joining Hild Bede in the academic year 2022/23 will be offered an accommodation choice on the two main sites, on a catered (Riverside) or self-catered (Ernest Place) basis from the start of Michaelmas term 2022.
In addition, all members of Hild Bede will still be able to access a range of facilities on the Riverside site during the academic year 2022/23.
Please be assured that there will be no impact on the planned redevelopment works as a result of this action.
