For me, it's the people that make working at Durham University so special. Everyone is so welcoming and I've always found colleagues within CIS and across wider University to be friendly and helpful. It's been interesting to work across many teams, on a variety of initiatives and being able to work on a diverse range of technologies, systems and projects that have provided many opportunities to develop new skills and experience.
Durham has been a great place to start my career. From my first day, I’ve felt welcomed and supported by the team and no matter the question, I’m always given thorough and helpful responses that supports my learning and development.
"I joined Durham University in 2013 as an Advanced Apprentice. The initial apprenticeship was flexible and allowed me to gain a wide range of experience across a number of specialisations within CIS; within 1st, 2nd and 3rd line IT support. This experience allowed me to carve a career path, directed to my own areas of interest and skills, supported by appropriate training.
I completed the qualification part of my apprenticeship early and was able to apply for a permanent position within the team.
My career started with the IT Service Desk, which gave me a solid foundation of knowledge about IT support across the University. Since then I have worked across numerous roles across CIS, and have spent a large amount of my time within the Network Team. More recently I have been investing time in DevOps and have been appointed to the position of IS Senior Manager (Solution Designer).
The University has continually provided me with opportunities to enhance my skills and invest in my personal development, which has provided a platform for me to achieve my career aspirations to date."
