Teaching Fellows

As a Teaching Fellow you will join us for a fixed term, giving you the opportunity to gain valuable experience in your academic career. You’ll be responsible for teaching modules in appropriate learning environments at undergraduate/postgraduate levels. You’ll manage your own teaching, while also designing, planning and writing teaching materials. You’ll help develop and deliver an engaging and inclusive curriculum and make an active contribution to a community in which diversity is embraced and celebrated. As well as having the opportunity to develop pedagogically, you’ll also play an active role in Department administration and citizenship.

You must have recently completed, or be concluding, your PhD, and have experience of teaching and examining at University level. You’ll also need to be able to demonstrate relevant experience, skills and achievements in your field, which could include membership of a related professional body.

Lecturers

As a Lecturer you will join us for a fixed term where you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience for your academic career. In addition to teaching, you’ll benefit from having time allocated in which you can develop your research profile with the support of a mentor. You’ll deliver lectures, seminars and tutorials at undergraduate and taught postgraduate levels, with opportunities to teach more widely within your department, as well as engaging in related activity such as assessment. And you’ll also play an active role in administration and wider citizenship within your Department.

You must have recently completed, or be concluding, your PhD, and you should already have experience of teaching and examining at University level. We’ll also expect you to be able to help develop high quality learning and research environments, and you’ll have the ability to engage with students in lots of different ways.

Postdoctoral Research Associates

As a Postdoctoral Research Associate, you’ll join us for a fixed term. It’s an opportunity to either lead your own research project or develop your own research ideas and research protocols, or help advance a significant research project led by another colleague.

You’ll need a good first degree, and you’ll also either have, or be close to submitting, a PhD in a related subject. Experience in conducting high quality academic research, and an ability to present research papers at conferences, and write for leading journals are also important.

Assistant Professors

As an Assistant Professor, you’ll focus on internationally excellent research or teaching, or a combination of both. It’s an opportunity to engage in wider citizenship as you build your career, advance your department and your discipline, and contribute to the wider student experience.

We’ll support you to publish high quality research in your area of interest, including monographs and journal articles. And we’ll also support your research needs, from providing practical help such as resources to attend conferences and to fund research activities, to offering generous research leave and a designated mentor.

Associate Professors

Professors

Progression in Academic Roles

If you join us in an academic role, you’ll have the opportunity to progress with us as part of an annual process designed to help you reach the next stage of your career. Please note that while this process runs each year, you’ll only be able to apply every other year.

Decisions on progression are made by committee and are based on your research activity, educational activity, and citizenship activity. We encourage you to work with a mentor or other senior academic colleagues in your department to make sure your application inspires valuable feedback that can help you progress.
