Thanks for volunteering your time

Your relationship with Durham doesn't end at Congregation. For over 150 years you have been generously volunteering your time and expertise to support our students, the wider alumni community and enhance the reputation of the University globally.

The advice and support within the community is invaluable at any stage in the individual journeys of our graduates - and one of the foremost reasons in the choice to study at Durham.

We thank you for your generosity, you are making a difference.

  • Ways to get involved

There's lots of ways to get involved at any time after you leave, depending on how much time you have available and what suits you. Volunteering is both rewarding and stimulating - and it's an excellent way to keep in touch with Durham, catch-up with old friends and make new ones!

Dunelm Days

Every November we get together all across the world for Dunelm Days, our global alumni celebration, bringing together Durham alumni, supporters, friends and family throughout the whole month. Organised and hosted by you, it’s a fantastic way to make new connections and celebrate all things Durham.

International Volunteer Day

In 2023, members of our alumni community came together to support the University, helping us to build and expand our vibrant community, provide advice and inspire in a myriad of ways. We are endlessly thankful for our alumni volunteers and wish to celebrate their collective action publicly.

The power of collective action

This is just a small snapshot of the range of activities our alumni volunteers have supported us with this year.

If you're feeling inspired, view our current alumni volunteering opportunities or get in touch.

Dunelm Days

Alumni organised 50 events across the world in a celebration of what it means to be a Durham graduate, reconnect with old friends and forge new connections.

Region-specific online events

Volunteers attended multiple regional events for prospective international students, offering practical advice from their Durham experiences to reassure and inspire.

Faculty-specific online events

Prospective international students talked to alumni to find out what it was like to study specific subjects, and discover how Durham has shaped their career journeys.

Inspirational experiences

Alumni volunteers also shared written experiences of their time at Durham, which we have featured across our channels, including the web, social media and printed items.
