Catering is provided in Colleges for 31 weeks during the academic year. Most students will only access the core 29 weeks of term plus either welcome week for freshers or congregation week for finalists.
The core 30 weeks provides a weekly catering charge of £92. There are 21 meals per week provided which equates to just over £4 per meal.
Shared and Paired Room Discounts
If you are allocated to a shared room (two people sharing one room) or a paired room (single study bedrooms with one shared ensuite) the appropriate discount will be taken from the overall residence fee.
Riverside Room
(offered at College of St Hild and St Bede for 2023/24 only)
3/4 and Double Bed Supplement
If you are allocated to a room with a 3/4 (4ft wide) or double (4ft 6in wide) bed, the appropriate supplement will be added to your overall residence charge.
Recognised (independent) Colleges
The two recognised Colleges, St Chad's College and St John's College, operate their accommodation independently of the University. Residence charges, periods of occupancy and catering may slightly differ from those published above. You should check directly with these Colleges for the most up to date information on their accommodation options.
Purpose Built Partner Accommodation
The University sometimes leases high quality accommodation in purpose built blocks in Durham City. This can be due to high student demand or when planned refurbishment programmes mean some of our College accommodation is unavailable for part or all of the academic year. The price of this accommodation can vary slightly, but the University will ensure that the charge for this accommodation will not exceed that of a similar facility and standard offered in College accommodation.
