Scholarships & Bursaries

St Aidan's College has a comprehensive selection of bursaries and scholarships to provide financial support to our undergraduate and postgraduate students. Particular emphasis is placed on students who are from low income households, first generation scholars, care leavers, LGBTQ+, or from a diverse heritage background. During academic year 2022-2023 a series of extraordinary scholarships will be granted to mark St Aidan's 75th Anniversary. Please access the application forms through each award link below.

Graduate Scholarship SA Bur18

This scholarship will support any Postgraduate student with their living costs and expenses whilst undertaking their studies.

Research Fellowship SA Bur17

Resident artists and fellows working within academic departments.
 
 

Important Information:

Evidence, please describe how you would look to spend a grant, to support and further your research. (purchase of materials or specialist equipment) The total amount of funds needed must be specified.

Ethleen Scott Award  SA Bur16

Funds granted for music and or language studies, *but not for core requirements of their degrees* (eg year abroad in languages)  

Important Information:

Evidence of how this fund will support the student's development and learning of music and languages. Evidence of the total amount needed to pursue the development opportunity.  

Explanation of no more than 200 words of how you will share the benefits of this development opportunity with the St Aidan’s Community. (Skills and experience sharing)

Beatrice Hollingworth Fund SA Bur15

Funding granted for Postgraduate student/s who have graduated in College with Honours in a science subject and who intend to embark the following year on a full-time course leading to a higher degree within the University.  

Important Information:

Evidence of hons degree in a science subject from Durham University; (option to upload a letter with results) also evidence of acceptance on to a PG full-time course at Durham University. Evidence of financial support needed; evidence of what students would spend the funding on.

St Aidan’s Irene Hindmarsh ScholarshipsSA Bur19 

Funding granted to Undergraduate students from low-income families, of diverse heritage and/or are first generation scholars. The gift may be used to cover tuition, living costs and/or any other associated costs of study.  Max £4,000 per student per year. For a max of 4 years at Durham University. 

Important Information:

College Principal receives list of eligible HH income students from SIFSO in October to cross-check eligibility. Advise students about other Durham funding opps (Durham Grant; WSE Fund; University Student Support Fund) Explanation no more than 200 words of how you will share the benefits of your Undergraduate studies with the wider St Aidan’s Community.

The Wilson Fund SA Bur13

Funding granted to Undergraduate first year Mathematics students from state schools. The gift may be used to cover tuition, living costs and or any other associated costs of study.

Dame Enid Russell-Smith Award SA Bur12

Funding granted to Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students from low-income households or state schools or care leavers or those of diverse heritage, who  encounter financial difficulties throughout the academic year. The gift may be used exceptionally towards tuition, but is usually given for living costs and/or any other associated costs of study.

Evidence of having applied to the Durham Universities hardship fund. Explanation of no more than 200 words of how you would share the benefits of your Undergraduate/ Postgraduate studies with the wider St Aidan’s Community.

Prize awarded to best Aidan’s First year and Final year Law Students.

Bostock Smith Bursary SA Bur10

To support students of Black African heritage. The gift may be used to cover tuition, living costs and any other associated costs of study. 

Important Information:

Evidence of being of Black African heritage reflected in place of birth on passport and or birth certificate.  

Fiona Braidwood Bursary SA Bur9

To support a student from a non-selective state school applying to St Aidan’s. 

Important Information:

Evidence that attended a non-selective state school.  

 

Ruth Smith Memorial  SA Bur8

Gift to support Undergraduate Law students. 

Important Information:

Evidence of studying Undergraduate Law, Evidence of how the gift would be spent.  

 

Jack Caswell Bursary SA Bur7

Gift for student who cannot participate in sport/a specific sporting event or project or wellbeing activities without this financial support.   

Important Information:

Evidence of how the gift would be spent, receipts need to be kept and returned as part of the funding. A Letter to be produced to to Mrs Jenny Caswell to thank them for their support.  

Leslie Clark Award SA Bur6

Gift for foreign travel development activities with a preference for engineering students or engineering projects.

Evidence of how the gift would be spent.  

Duerden Award SA Bur5

Gift to support foreign travel for the development of theological studies or interests, interfaith, cultural dialogue.

Gift to fund community events delivered in College or by College societies.

St Aidan’s 75th Anniversary Award SA Bur2

Funding granted to Undergraduate students from low-income families who are of diverse heritage and/or are first generation scholars. The gift may be used exceptionally to cover tuition, but is usually granted for living costs and/or any other associated costs of study.  Maximum of £1,000 per student per year. For a maximum of 3 years at Durham University.

Funding granted to fund fees up to (£10,000), for College accommodation (£10,000) and a stipend of £10,000.
