Welcome to St Aidan's, where I hope you will spend some of the happiest and most interesting years of your life. This is the rainbow College, a multicultural, multi-faith community, which is proud to host Durham Pride and Durham City of Sanctuary, the Centre for Sex, Gender and Sexualities, the Centre for Jewish Studies, the University Islamic chaplaincy and collaborations with artists, writers and social entrepreneurs across the region and the world. You will make lifelong friendships with people from all backgrounds, personalities and academic subjects, choosing your own pace in settings that range from quiet, informal encounters to imaginatively themed extravaganzas in the Dining Hall. Whether you decide to explore the cultural forums and Language Evenings, volunteer in local community engagement projects, develop new or familiar forms of expression in the Creative Writing Course or Arts activities, contribute your ideas and energies to annual celebrations like Chinese New Year or to our environmental Green Network or help to sustain our participation in a wide spectrum of sports, you will be encouraged and inspired. In Aidan's, staff and students work together in mutual respect aiming to create an atmosphere in which everyone can flourish. So take your time and enjoy settling into your new home.
Dr. Susan Frenk, Principal
Welcome to Aidan’s!
Congratulations on making it to Durham, and more importantly to St Aidan’s, without a doubt the best college in Durham! I’m Joe McGarry, your Junior Common Room (JCR) President for 2021/2022. I was elected earlier this year by the student body of Aidan’s to represent and lead the JCR this coming year. The JCR President is a sabbatical role, meaning it is now my full-time job following my graduation from Maths in July.
If you have met your offer from the University, you will receive a College Welcome Pack from us later in August. This will be in the form of a link in an email from us that will take you to another part of our website. Later in the month, we will contact you about College accommodation; such correspondence will be sent via email.
The Timetable has been designed so College events don’t clash with any of your academic departmental events, but offer you lots of opportunities to meet your fellow Freshers, find your way around and settle into student life.
We're working hard to welcome you safely and delivering quality education and student experience. Visit our Covid Safety Information webpages for applicants for the latest advice. We can't wait to see you soon!
Check out our student blogs to read more about life at Durham from our students. Don't forget to follow us on social media!
