Cheerleading

Club Captain: Emily Wallace
Coaches: Jaz Newton

Durham Divas are the cheer, dance and stunt squad for Durham University students, with over 70 members. We compete nationally with numerous successes including two Grand National Champion titles. Durham Divas consists of four competitive teams; Level 3 and Level 2 cheerleading teams, a Lyrical dance team and a Pom dance team. We also have a non-competitive performance team.

The competitive cheerleading teams are energetic yet challenging with routines consisting of stunting, tumbling, jumps and dance. Experience in dance or gymnastics is useful but no experience is needed to join the teams and they will always look for the best in people and train you up from no experience to Grand Champions.

Pom dance incorporates a fast upbeat routine including a variety of jumps, kicks and turns, with strong arm movements using poms. Lyrical dance uses turns, leaps, floor work and flowing movements to create beautiful, heart-wrenching routines. Last year, both dance teams placed first at nationals, highlighting the high calibre of dance within the club. The performance team doesn’t follow any competition guidelines or limits, so routines are creative and built to impress. It’s a great opportunity to push yourself, hone your skills, and learn high level stunts! Because of this, a year of either cheer or tumbling experience is needed for this team.

The team look forward to welcoming new members every year!
