Club Captain: Johanna Jarvi

Durham University Equestrian Team (DUET) provides students with a fantastic opportunity to compete in BUCS competitions against other universities across the country. Throughout the year we compete locally against universities in the surrounding areas, aiming to qualify for regional competitions and then BUCS nationals. Competitions see our riders completing a dressage test on an unfamiliar horse, before a round of show jumps on a different unfamiliar horse. On a weekly basis, we train at a local equestrian centre and ride a variety of horses week to week. These training sessions include flatwork exercises, dressage training, jumping exercises and courses of jumps. This variety creates opportunities for our riders to continuously work on our riding ability, encouraging adaptability which is a vital skill for our competitions.

As one of Team Durham’s smaller teams, we grow very close as a group as we train at least once per week and have regular social events. Although we are unable to accommodate beginners, we encourage any riders at Durham to reach out and trial with us at the start of the academic year. We are looking for adaptable, competent riders to join us to ensure we have a fun and successful year.
