Club Captain: Charlie Hellier
Lead coaches: Alex Keay, Si Culley

Training with the Lions; Cup Finals at Twickenham; Turning Professional and playing for England within 2 years of leaving University. It sounds amazing, but these are just some of the fantastic experiences Durham University rugby players and teams have enjoyed in very recent years.

Durham University Rugby Football Club (founded 1875) is one of the oldest sporting clubs in the University, dating back to the foundation of the University in 1832, and has a proud tradition, with many successes in the UAU, BUSA and BUCS competitions. We are current BUCS Super Rugby Champions and run 5 University Men's teams, with all those teams competing and succeeding in the top leagues of BUCS University rugby playing many other University 1st XVs. We also have a very strong sevens programme, playing at the BUCS national tournaments (national champions 3 times in last 8 years), St Andrew's Sevens, Melrose Sevens and Algarve Sevens, where we faced national teams like USA ,Fiji etc.

Durham University rugby has one of the best rugby programmes in the country, delivering performance rugby in an academic environment; combining outstanding facilities, coaching with a strong and challenging support programme through performance analysis (only University using GPS systems), strength and conditioning to international 20s standard minimum, and a first class physiotherapy and medical back up/referral process. In addition, we provide nutrition support to maximise player development and sustainability.

Durham University Rugby Club continue to develop more starting Premiership players than any other academic university over the last 10 years and we are proud of our commitment to academic achievement and rugby excellence, providing students with top class degrees as well as elite rugby training. We aim to be the best student club in the country providing a prestigious fixture list amazing Club Tours ( NZ / SA / Australia) , and at whatever level you play, offer a challenging and enjoyable rugby programme that enables players to get rugby experiences, memories and friends to enjoy forever whilst encouraging and supporting our players to get the best degree they can get.
