Fellowships 

We are always actively seeking ways to bring new researchers into our community, and are proactive in our support of potential colleagues who might wish to come to us. As a result we have had success in securing a range of prestigious postdoctoral fellowships, including: 

 

British Academy International Fellowships 2025 in the Department of Classics and Ancient History Durham University 

The Department of Classics and Ancient History invites expressions of interest from outstanding candidates who wish to apply for a prestigious British Academy International Fellowship through Durham University.  

We welcome enquiries from eligible candidates particularly those related to the research themes in the department (https://www.durham.ac.uk/departments/academic/classics-ancient-history/research/) or to relevant University Research Centres and Institutes (https://www.dur.ac.uk/arts.humanities/research/research_centres/). Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in the University. 

Working in conjunction and with approval from their mentor, candidates should check their eligibility to apply and confirm their intent to submit an application to the scheme. Notification of intent to submit must be received by the Departmental Director of Research (Professor Ted Kaizer ted.kaizer@durham.ac.uk) by 12 noon, Monday 20 February 2023. Further details about the internal application process will be available via the Arts and Humanities Research Team (artsandhumanities.researchteam@durham.ac.uk).

Visiting Fellowships 

We have had outstanding success in securing Senior Research Fellows at the Institute of Advanced Studies (which is just next door to us). We are also able to offer suitably qualified scholars who wish to work with us here non-stipendiary visitor status in the University.
