The second Ian Doyle Memorial Lecture, given in conjunction with Medieval Insular Romance Conference, Durham University, 5th-7th April 2022. Ian Doyle was a very renowned manuscript scholar, Keeper of Rare Books and Reader in Bibliography in Durham. This lecture will examine Ian Doyle's most significant contributions to the study of Middle English manuscripts. It will pay particular attention to the importance of his 1953 PhD thesis and his work on codicology and palaeography.

Professor of Medieval Manuscripts at the University of Kent
A. S. G. Edwards taught in the English Department at the University of Victoria before becoming Professor of Textual Studies at De Montfort University in Leicester and then Professor of Medieval Manuscripts at the University of Kent. He has most recently edited (with Julia Boffey) the Oxford History of Poetry in English, 1400-1500, and is currently general editor (also with Julia Boffey) of the forthcoming Cambridge University Press edition of the Works of Geoffrey Chaucer.
