Fresh from winning the 2021 Forward Prize for Poetry, we’re delighted to welcome Luke Kennard to our next Inventions of the Text. Free and open to everyone.
Inventions of the Text
The prose poem, Absurdist and Surrealist technique in contemporary poetry, Transatlantic influence and publishing trends in contemporary British poetry… the preoccupations of award-winning poet, novelist, critic and lecturer Luke Kennard, who reads at Inventions of the Text on Wednesday 24 November, 17.30 GMT.
Just last month, Kennard won the 2021 Forward Prize for Best Collection for Notes on the Sonnets, a recasting of Shakespeare’s 154 sonnets as a series of anarchic prose poems set in a joyless, present-day house party.
Reader in Creative Writing, University of Birmingham
In 2005, Dr Luke Kennard won an Eric Gregory Award for his first collection The Solex Brothers. His second collection, The Harbour Beyond The Movie, was shortlisted for the 2007 Forward Prize for Best Collection, making him the youngest ever poet to be nominated. His debut novel, The Transition, was a BBC Radio 4 Book at Bedtime. Kennard won the 2021 Forward Prize for Best Collection for Notes on the Sonnets.
