Poetics of Rendering Banner

The history of computer graphics is, in part, the history of graphical means of entering into contact with real space, experimentally, that one might connect, dismantle, reserve, and modify its orientations on-the-fly. And under pervasive digital conditions—as developers of the early web browser Netscape proposed—perhaps all of us with a screen are world navigators. In this talk, I examine the longstanding digital links between territorial and graphical technologies, drawing on examples from the history of radar, gaming, video art, and more.
