Global energy transition is underway and meeting the global climate change targets requires a large amount of investment in cleaner forms of energy. Simultaneously, States are required to implement certain policy and regulatory measures to move away from fossil fuels and accelerate the inclusion of renewable energy in their energy mix. These measures have a potential to adversely affect the current and future investments in the energy sector. While the shifts in the regulatory sphere might negatively affect already existing investments, they also create uncertainty for future investments. This conference will bring leading figures of the energy and investment arbitration fields together to address the interrelation between energy transition and investment disputes. The panels will discuss issues related to potential energy investment dispute types, dispute prevention mechanisms, the relationship between investment treaties and energy transition, and the stranded assets problem.
