The Law and Global Justice at Durham is excited to announce an upcoming external event with Dr. Michael Fakhri, a renowned expert in the field of international law and human rights and the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food since 2020.

Event by Durham Law and Global Justice

In this event, Dr.Fakhri will be sharing his insights and expertise on pressing issues related to global justice, including the intersection of trade and human rights, environmental justice, and food security. Dr. Fakhri will discuss one of his recent papers on Markets, Sovereignty, and Racialization published in the Journal of International Economic Law where he analyses the 2009 European Union Seal Regime banning the importation of seal products and the series of cases before the EU courts and World Trade Organization through a critical lens.

Dr. Fakhri is a professor at the University of Oregon School of Law where he teaches courses on human rights, food law, development, and commercial law. He is also the director of the Food Resiliency Project in the Environmental and Natural Resources Law Center. He holds a Doctorate from the University of Toronto, Masters from Harvard Law School, Bachelor of Laws from Queen’s University, and a Bachelor of Science in Ecology from Western University.
