Dr Jiang’s presentation will examine the regulation of human embryo stem cell (HESC) research and its clinical use in China. She will start by presenting an overview of the existing regulatory framework, drawing attention to gaps between the patent and health law framework and the use of a 14-day limit in judging the patentability of HESC-related inventions. She will then examine the legal status of human embryo under the Civil Code 2020, and conclude by considering recent cases and legal revisions related to HESC research and its clinical use.
