This seminar will offer perspectives on institutional violence in Youth Justice and Secondary Education in Australia from two Australian visiting fellows, Associate Professor Diana Johns (University of Melbourne) and Dr Ben Lohmeyer (Flinders University).

This seminar will provide a brief overview of A/Prof Johns’ work on the so-called over-representation of racialised and marginalised young people in youth justice and custodial settings, and Dr Lohmeyer’s work on spatiotemporal dynamics and affective hierarchies in Bullying in Secondary School. Insights will include reflections on participatory research methods and co-design.

Following this overview, there will be a facilitated discussion about the correlations with institutions and services for young people in the UK as well as consideration of the opportunities for international collaboration and action.

This seminar will be delivered in a hybrid format. Please select either 'online' or 'in person' when registering for a ticket. Please check your spam/junk email folder for confirmation.
